Well the harvest has come and gone. It was amazing this year. Dry but not too hot. Just perfect. The yields weren’t bad. Some fields that were planted early in the Autumn were then plagued with black grass, a weed that is difficult to control once the crop has been planted.

January is refurbishment time and as we head into February we are finishing this years revamp. This year is was the turn of Sleeplate Cottage. It is now looking very smart with a new solid oak handcrafted floor, 2 new bathrooms and a refit of all the spot lights in the bathrooms and the kitchen.
January is a fantastic time to visit the cottages. Burton Dassett hills is a two mile walk from the cottages and the beacon can be viewed from the farm. A lovely place to visit.

The mill was built in 1664 and blown down in a storm in 1946. The beacon was likely built by Lord of the Manor Sir Edward Belknap in the late 15th century as a tower mill and later used as defensive lookout tower in the English Civil War.
